Why Community Insights

Knowable Me occasionally hears from people in our community about accessibility barriers in real-world environments, services and products. Rather than treating these as complaints, we see them as opportunities for organisations to listen and learn.

People with lived experience of disability often notice accessibility issues long before organisations do. Too often, those insights never reach the teams who could act on them.

Knowable Me provides a simple way for organisations to hear directly from people experiencing these barriers and gather practical insight on how things could work better.

We are not an advocacy or complaints body. Our role is to facilitate constructive conversations that turn lived experience into actionable insight.

How It Works

Community Signals

People in the Knowable Me community share real experiences about accessibility barriers in environments, services, or products.

Invite Insight

When a situation may benefit from broader perspective, we invite the organisation to participate in a constructive discussion.

Lived Experience

Knowable Me brings together people with relevant lived experience to share practical observations and perspectives.

Practical Improvements

Organisations receive clear observations and ideas that can help improve accessibility and usability.

What Organisations Get

A Community Insight Session typically includes:

  • A short summary of the issue raised
  • A facilitated discussion with people who have relevant lived experience
  • Direct observations about accessibility and usability
  • Practical suggestions for improvement
  • A short written summary of insights

Investment: From $1,200

Most sessions are delivered within 2–3 weeks.

Sessions are designed to be constructive, practical, and respectful of everyone involved. They can be in-person, virtual, or a combination of both.

Knowable Me can also gather Community Insight independently and prepare the same summary of practical suggestions for improvement.

If a Community Insight Session isn’t the right approach, we’ll suggest a better option.

Real-world Example

A healthcare clinic recently upgraded its waiting area and reception space. The redesign looked modern and efficient, but a visitor who is blind shared that the new layout made navigation much harder. Furniture had been rearranged, sightlines had changed, and familiar cues that previously helped with orientation were gone.

Situations like this are common. Changes made with good intentions can unintentionally create new barriers.

A Community Insight Session allows organisations to hear directly from people with lived experience, explore what isn’t working, and identify practical improvements that make the space easier for everyone to use.

Often the changes needed are small: clearer orientation cues, more consistent pathways, or simple adjustments to layout. But the impact on usability can be significant.

Important Note

Knowable Me is not an advocacy body and does not investigate complaints or disputes.

Our role is to facilitate community insight conversations that help organisations better understand lived experience and identify opportunities to improve accessibility.
