1. Our Approach

Knowable Me takes privacy and data security seriously. It’s a core part of how we operate.

We are a member of the Australian Data & Insights Association and comply with:

  • The Privacy Act 1988
  • The Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)
  • The Privacy (Market and Social Research) Code

These frameworks set strict standards for how we collect, use, store and protect personal information.

2. What We Collect

We collect information to understand people in context and to match you with relevant research opportunities.

This may include:

  • Contact details (e.g. name, email address, phone number)
  • Demographic information
  • Experiences, preferences and perspectives
  • Information about how you interact with products, services and systems
  • Information about disability, health conditions, access needs or other aspects of lived experience

Some of this information may be sensitive. Providing it is always voluntary.

3. Your Profile and Lived Experience

As part of your Knowable Me profile (including “My Uniqueness”), you may choose to share more detailed information about your experiences and context.

Some questions may feel personal. This is intentional. Our approach is to move beyond surface-level data so we can:

  • Match you to research that is genuinely relevant
  • Generate more meaningful, real-world insights

You are always in control of what you share. You can skip questions or select “prefer not to say” where available.

4. How We Collect Information

We collect information directly from you through:

  • Your Knowable Me account
  • Activities you participate in (e.g. surveys, interviews, testing)
  • Communication via email, phone or in person where needed

5. How We Use Information

We use your information to:

  • Determine eligibility for research activities
  • Match you with relevant opportunities
  • Communicate with you about activities, your account and rewards
  • Generate insights for organisations

When we share insights:

  • Data is de-identified or aggregated
  • Individuals are not identifiable
  • Direct quotes may be used, but only where they cannot be linked back to you

We do not sell your personal information.

We will only share identifiable information where:

  • You have given explicit consent
  • There is a serious threat to life or health
  • Disclosure is required or authorised by law

6. Data Storage and Security

Your information is stored securely using trusted technology providers.

Our member platform is currently built with GitHub and Supabase, and is hosted on Vercel.

Data may be hosted outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled in accordance with Australian privacy laws.

We use a combination of technical and operational safeguards to protect your data, including secure access controls and monitoring.

7. Cookies and Website Use

Our member platform primarily uses browser storage and limited technical mechanisms needed for sign-in, security, and core site operation. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies in the member application code.

8. Accessing and Updating Your Information

You can access and update your information at any time through your account.

If you need assistance, you can contact us. We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access or making changes.

9. Children’s Privacy

You must be 18 years or older to hold a Knowable Me account.

We recognise that some members may share information relating to children in their care. We take reasonable steps to ensure that children’s privacy is not compromised through this process.

10. Data Retention and Removal

We retain your information while your account is active and where it is needed for research and operational purposes.

You can request:

  • Access to your data
  • Corrections to your data
  • Deletion of your data, where possible

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in how we operate.

Where changes are material, we will notify you.
